“Memoir is the story of how we got here from there,” said Abigail Thomas in summing up the discipline of writing memoir. In this four-week class, we’ll use prompts from Abigail Thomas’s book, Thinking About Memoir, and other writing exercises to find the stuff of our own stories. Whether you’re in the midst of creating a memoir, thinking about writing one, or just want to experience the sometimes surprising, occasionally painful, often joyful exploration of writing your memories, this class will lead you into your own rich storehouse of material. We’ll write and read in the supportive atmosphere of like-minded explorers and learn elements of the genre and the craft along the way. Fiction writers can use the memory excavations for transplanting into novels or short stories. A class for writers of all levels.
