Spring Writing Retreat at Mission San Luis Rey

Saturday, May 4, 2024
9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Mission San Luis Rey • Oceanside
$150  (Lunch included)

Mid-point between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice comes May Day, known by the ancients as Beltane—“Day of Fire.” While Spring Equinox celebrates the return of the Light after winter’s darkness, May Day celebrates the return of Spring, a day of traditions and joyful renewal.

Our all-day writing retreat comes a few days after the actual May Day, which is observed on May 1, but still we’ll honor the occasion as we gather in our private room in the beautiful setting at Mission San Luis Rey (I can already smell the roses) and write our stories and share them. Prompts and writing explorations will be as abundant as the blooming on the landscaped Mission grounds.

A favorite feature at the Mission of writers and retreaters is the Labyrinth and, as synchronicity would have it, our retreat will take place on the 16th World Labyrinth Day. In “Walk as One at 1,” people around the world will will walk a labyrinth at 1 pm local time to help create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next, around the globe. Following our lunch, those who would like to take part in this world-wild event will gather at the MIssion’s Labyrinth and follow the winding paths.

Bring your current work-in-progress or a notebook with plenty of blank pages, which you will fill as we write alone/together, writing in community, in our own voices, creating our own stories.

Participation is limited, so register early. Lunch is included with registration. More information and directions to Mission San Luis Rey will be sent via email as Retreat Day draws close.
