Taking Pen in Hand: Basics for Creative Writers

Saturday, July 27
10 am – 4 pm
UCSD Extension

If you want to write a novel, screenplay, short story–if you want to write anything, the first step is to start writing. It’s the next step that’s the tricky one and the one where most would-be writers trip up: keep writing. In this stimulating, fun and fast-paced workshop, you’ll learn how to do just that. You will learn to practice the craft of writing through in-group exercises and spontaneous discussions. You will learn: how to get started and keep going; the ten daily habits that make a good writer; what stuck looks like and how to get unstuck; how to tell when the critic, censor, or editor is present and what to do about it; how to say yes to the Muse; how to discover what you really want to write about; and how to name yourself “writer” and be part of a writing community.
