Introduction

Judy Reeves is a writer, teacher, and writing practice provocateurIf you want to write . . . a novel, a short story, your memoir . . . if you want to write anything, the first step is to start writing. It’s the next step that’s the tricky one and the one where many writers trip up: keep writing.

I come from the writing practice school of writing—writing as a daily practice like meditation or yoga, a way of centering and grounding myself in my writing and my life; and practice as in to get better, to stay in shape, to become as Mick Jagger says, “amazingly brilliant.” Creating and claiming a regular writing practice is how the novel, the stories, the memoirs get written, and that’s what this website and my other materials and communications are all about.

Here you’ll find writing prompts and exercises, inspirational tips, ideas, and insights I’ve learned from more than 20 years of teaching writing and leading writing groups. What else? Look for a series of portable, downloadable writing workshops and other tutorials available in the Writer’s Store. I’ll also list all my upcoming events, classes and workshops. You can subscribe to my blog, The Lively Muse, too, and get a weekly serving writing practice mojo right in your mailbox.
