winding road in mountainsUsing the concept of writing practice, we’ll work from prompts in timed, focused writings, to generate new material. Next we’ll begin to shape our raw material, using exercises to deepen the work and to find the story within the story. Each session will delve into the material from different aspects — idea, character, setting, scene, etc., working with opposite pulls: inside/outside, right brain/left brain, intuitive/logical, to discover what wants to be written and to begin to develop it into form: fiction, nonfiction, personal narrative, memoir, or something else. Writers will have an opportunity to read their work aloud, if they wish, for response from other students and the instructor. At the end of our five-week class, participants will have a developed piece of work or a solid beginning of a longer project. For writers of all levels and all genres.
