J&J Ranch

Slow down. Take a respite from the sights, sounds and energy of the city to create in nature with like-spirited adventurers. We’ll locate ourselves in the spacious studio at the J & J Ranch where wide windows and sweeping, tranquil views invite extemporaneous expeditions and playful meanders. Magazines, brushes and glue will be used to make spontaneous mini-collages of characters and settings and writing prompts will spark free-flowing free-writes.

Alternating art-making with free-writing promises to surprise and inspire your muse. Characters may reveal their secrets and settings will become detail-filled, rich and colorful. At the end of the day-long retreat, you’ll have several small collages and a pages and pages of new writing to take home with you. Writers and artists of all levels are invited; no experience is required. Bring a friend and join us.

Coffee, drinks, and snacks will be provided. Bring journal, pens, walking shoes and your brown bag lunch.

The J & J Ranch in Descanso is a 45-minute drive from downtown San Diego. Below Cuyamaca peak these forty acres border the Cleveland National Forest and are filled with oaks, manzanita and sage. It is a peaceful place to expand your creative horizons. As we come closer to the event, we’ll help arrange car-pooling opportunities.
